Think You Have Bed Bugs? Start With an Inspection

As a trusted pest control provider serving Las Vegas and Southern Nevada since 2006, we start bed bug service with an inspection to identify the problem, assess the affected areas, and determine the recommended next step.

Bites alone do not confirm bed bugs. Other insects can cause similar reactions, so physical evidence and proper identification matter. Common signs include:

  • Live, reddish-brown insects around beds or furniture
  • Small dark spots on sheets, mattresses, or box springs
  • Shed skins or eggs around seams and protected areas
  • Small blood smears on bedding
  • Repeated signs around the same sleeping or resting area

The Southern Nevada Health District also provides guidance on identifying bed bugs and recognizing signs of an infestation.

An inspection helps determine whether the evidence is consistent with bed bugs, where signs are present, and which locations need attention. You do not have to identify the pest yourself before calling.

Why Treating Visible Bugs Isn’t Enough

Finding one bed bug does not show how far an infestation extends. Bed bugs hide in mattress seams, cracks, furniture joints, and other protected spaces.
Treating only the bug you see does not address concealed locations where additional insects or signs could be present. A proper assessment helps determine whether the infestation extends beyond the first place where a bed bug was noticed.

A bed bug infestation can also affect sleep and create ongoing stress. Our guide on bed bug infestations and mental health covers those effects in more detail.

What Technicians Check During an Inspection

Bed bugs often stay hidden close to where people sleep or rest. During an inspection, our technicians look for physical evidence in places such as:

We look for live insects as well as eggs, shed skins, dark spotting, and other signs that help establish where bed bugs are present.

If you have found a live insect, tell the technician where you found it and, when possible, have a clear photograph or specimen available for identification.

What Does Bed Bug Service Include?

A bed bug problem needs more than treating the first insect you see. Our service is designed to establish where the infestation is present, understand its scope, and determine the service required.

  • 1

    Review the Reported Signs

We begin by learning about what you observed, where you saw it, and if there are any other sightings of that type of evidence. This provides important information for our team prior to the inspection.

  • 2

    Inspect the Reported Areas

We conduct the examination of the reported site together with the nearby areas to determine any presence of evidence of bedbugs. This process assists us in determining whether the reported cases of infestation are genuine.

  • 3

    Assess the Scope

We analyze the inspection reports to find out which rooms, furniture, and places of rest are affected. This will help us determine whether the problem is localized or not.

  • 4

    Recommend a Treatment Plan

The assessment determines the proposed intervention. We explain what was assessed, which sites need to be addressed, and what the intervention plan entails before the work commences.

  • 5

    Complete the Recommended Service

Treatment focuses on the locations identified during the inspection rather than only the spot where the first bug was seen. The approach reflects the conditions and extent of the infestation.

  • 6

    Follow Up When Needed

If additional service is recommended, we explain the follow-up requirements and what to expect next.

How Should You Prepare for an Inspection or Treatment?

Preparation depends on the service recommended for your home or business. Your technician will explain what needs to be done instead of giving every customer the same checklist.

Before the Inspection

Make the reported areas accessible and tell the technician where you noticed signs.
Avoid moving potentially affected furniture, bedding, luggage, or personal belongings from one room to another. Moving items unnecessarily makes it harder to determine where the infestation is located and could spread it to other areas.

Before Treatment

Preparation depends on the rooms involved and the recommended treatment approach.
You may need to clear access around furniture or follow specific instructions for bedding, clothing, and other belongings. Follow the instructions provided for your property rather than applying a generic preparation list.

Your technician will explain what needs to be moved, prepared, or left in place before service begins.

What Affects the Cost of Bed Bug Removal in Las Vegas?

Bed bug removal does not have one flat price for every situation. The final cost depends on the conditions identified during the inspection. Factors include:

A one-room situation in a smaller home requires a different level of service from an infestation involving several rooms or a commercial space.

We provide the exact quote after assessing the scope of service required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can bed bugs move to other rooms?

They can spread beyond the location where they were first noticed. At Enviro Guard Pest Control, our inspection covers the reported space along with nearby beds, furniture, and other potential hiding spots to determine whether the infestation appears limited or extends further.

Does every room need bed bug treatment?

Not necessarily. We base the service recommendation on the inspection, including the rooms and furnishings showing signs, property layout, and extent of the infestation. This helps us focus the recommended service where it is needed.

How long does bed bug treatment take?

It all depends on the dimensions of the infested area, structure of the property, preparation, method of extermination, and follow-ups, if any. We give our clients an idea of what to expect before we start our work instead of offering a predetermined number of visits that will be needed.

Do I need to throw away my mattress?

Not necessarily. Finding bed bugs does not automatically mean a mattress or furniture needs to be discarded. Our team assesses the situation and explains what needs attention before you decide whether furniture or other belongings should be replaced.

What should I do if I find a bed bug?

Avoid moving bedding, furniture, luggage, or other belongings to another room. Note where you found the insect and what you observed. Contact Enviro Guard Pest Control so our team can inspect the reported location, identify the problem, and recommend the next step based on the assessment.

Steve was very friendly from the beginning. I had a good feeling about his services, even when we first talked over the phone. I’m very specific about the areas outside my home that are sprayed. I have kids who are always playing outside and have VERY sensitive skin. I told Steve the specific areas I wanted treated. He was understanding and followed my instructions carefully. Also, I didn’t notice any bugs in my garage after Steve treated the area. I can tell he cares about his customer’s being satisfied with his work. I highly recommend him.

Steve and team gave a good price explained what type of service they provide and we are happy with our first application, having the option to call them if we see resurgence between applications is a definitely a peace of mind. We have two kids and a toddler who runs around bare feet even in the backyard so, having EnviroGuard treat our surroundings is well worth it, both environmental impact, limited footprint and safety for our kids.

We hired Enviroguard because we wanted to address pest issues without dangerous chemicals. I like that their products are eco-friendly and safe for the family. Their prices are affordable and they are reliable. Certain times of the year, like in the spring, the ants tend to show up more readily and they will always come out and do an extra treatment if necessary. We have had no major issues with bugs since we hired this company. I would highly recommend them.
