24/7 Las Vegas Pest Control Emergency Service

When Does Mosquito Season End in Las Vegas, NV?

Mosquito Season pest Control

Mosquito season slows down in Las Vegas during late fall. Cooler weather reduces mosquito activity.

However, mosquitoes can still be a problem at homes with pools, sprinklers, and standing water.

During our inspections, we find that water around a home often keeps mosquitoes active after summer.

This guide explains when mosquito season ends, why mosquitoes stay around, and when mosquito control in Las Vegas is needed.

Las Vegas Mosquito Season Timeline

Mosquito season does not end on one exact day. Weather and water around a home affect mosquito activity.

Mosquito numbers start rising in spring. The highest activity usually happens during the hot summer months.

The Clark County Mosquito Control District tracks mosquito activity during the year. Warm weather helps mosquitoes grow and breed.

A normal mosquito season looks like this:

  • March to April: Mosquito numbers start rising.
  • May to August: Mosquito activity is highest.
  • September to October: Mosquito activity starts slowing down.
  • November onward: Mosquito activity drops, but some homes still have problems.

In 2026, the Southern Nevada Health District started mosquito checks in March. This was about one month earlier than normal.

Warmer weather and rainfall across Clark County led to early monitoring.

These checks help track mosquito numbers, find mosquito types, and watch for mosquito-related diseases.

The time of year is only one part of the problem. Water around a home can keep mosquitoes active longer.

Why Mosquitoes Stay Active After Summer

Many homeowners expect mosquitoes to disappear after summer. During our inspections, we find that water around homes keeps mosquitoes going.

Las Vegas is a desert area, but homes create places where mosquitoes can live.

Pools, sprinklers, plants, and outdoor items can hold water. These areas give mosquitoes places to lay eggs.

We check areas such as:

  • Pool equipment areas
  • Leaking sprinklers
  • Wet grass or plants
  • Outdoor items holding water
  • Shaded areas with wet soil

Mosquitoes do not need a lot of water. Small amounts of standing water can support mosquito growth.

This is why two homes close to each other can have different mosquito problems. One home has fewer water areas, while another has places where mosquitoes can breed.

How Local Weather Affects Mosquito Activity

Las Vegas has hot and dry weather. But homes often have water from pools, lawns, and irrigation systems.

These areas create better places for mosquitoes than the natural desert.

Grass, plants, and shaded areas give mosquitoes places to rest. Water gives them places to breed.

Our guide on Las Vegas climate and pest control explains how local weather affects pest problems throughout the year.

Temperature affects mosquitoes, but water around a home plays a big role.

What We Check During Mosquito Inspections

When our technicians inspect a home, we do not only look for adult mosquitoes.

We look for places that help mosquitoes grow and stay near the property.

During inspections, we check:

  • Backyards
  • Irrigation systems
  • Pool areas
  • Drainage spots
  • Outdoor storage areas
  • Thick plants and bushes

We also check small issues that homeowners can miss.

This includes leaking sprinkler lines, water behind outdoor items, and wet areas after watering.

Finding these areas helps us understand why mosquitoes are showing up.

How Long Do Mosquitoes Last During Winter?

Mosquito activity drops during winter because cooler weather slows them down.

However, some homes still have mosquito problems. Pools, sprinklers, and areas with standing water can keep mosquitoes active.

The Southern Nevada Health District checks mosquito populations across Clark County throughout the year. The program uses thousands of traps and tests mosquito samples.

In 2026, the Health District reported that by June 1, staff placed 920 mosquito traps across Clark County.

They also tested 957 mosquito pools with more than 20,000 mosquitoes.

Clark County also tracks Aedes aegypti. This mosquito was first found in Clark County in 2017.

This mosquito lives well in city areas. It uses small amounts of water around homes to breed.

Because of these water sources, some homes can still have mosquito activity after summer.

How to Prepare Before the Next Mosquito Season

Fall and winter are good times to remove places where mosquitoes can breed.

During inspections, we find that small changes around a home can help reduce mosquito problems.

Homeowners should check:

  • Buckets and containers that collect water
  • Leaking outdoor faucets
  • Sprinkler problems
  • Wet areas near pools
  • Plants that receive too much water

Removing these water sources helps reduce mosquito problems when warmer weather returns.

When Should You Consider Professional Mosquito Control?

Cooler weather reduces mosquito activity, but some homes still have problems.

Professional mosquito control helps when:

  • Mosquitoes make it hard to enjoy your yard
  • Bites continue after basic prevention
  • Mosquito problems keep returning
  • Your home has many water areas

At Enviro Guard, we start with a property inspection.

Our technicians check where mosquitoes breed, hide, and gather around your home.

This helps us find the reason behind mosquito problems instead of only treating the mosquitoes you see.

Common Question About Pest Prevention

Every home has different outdoor conditions. Landscaping, sprinklers, pools, and water buildup can change mosquito activity from one property to another. During inspections, we often find that small changes around a home affect mosquito numbers.

Many mosquitoes are active during early morning and evening hours. These times are cooler and have less direct sunlight. Homeowners usually notice more mosquitoes around shaded yards, patios, and landscaped areas.

Technicians check areas where mosquitoes can breed and rest. This includes sprinklers, pools, drainage areas, plants, and hidden water spots. Finding these areas helps create a better treatment plan.

Waiting until mosquito numbers increase can make outdoor areas harder to enjoy. Many homeowners contact us after noticing repeated bites or mosquito problems. An inspection helps find the areas causing the problem before mosquito numbers grow.

Steve was very friendly from the beginning. I had a good feeling about his services, even when we first talked over the phone. I’m very specific about the areas outside my home that are sprayed. I have kids who are always playing outside and have VERY sensitive skin. I told Steve the specific areas I wanted treated. He was understanding and followed my instructions carefully. Also, I didn’t notice any bugs in my garage after Steve treated the area. I can tell he cares about his customer’s being satisfied with his work. I highly recommend him.

Steve and team gave a good price explained what type of service they provide and we are happy with our first application, having the option to call them if we see resurgence between applications is a definitely a peace of mind. We have two kids and a toddler who runs around bare feet even in the backyard so, having EnviroGuard treat our surroundings is well worth it, both environmental impact, limited footprint and safety for our kids.

We hired Enviroguard because we wanted to address pest issues without dangerous chemicals. I like that their products are eco-friendly and safe for the family. Their prices are affordable and they are reliable. Certain times of the year, like in the spring, the ants tend to show up more readily and they will always come out and do an extra treatment if necessary. We have had no major issues with bugs since we hired this company. I would highly recommend them.
