What Pests Are Most Common in Clark County & How to Stop Them in Winter

Winter Pest Clark County

Winter in Clark County may feel like a break from pests, but you still deal with plenty of indoor activity once the temperatures drop. When the weather cools, many pests seek warm places to survive, making your home an easy target. That is why many homeowners choose pest control services in Clark County to stop small problems before they grow.” You may notice insects or rodents in areas you typically ignore during warmer months, especially in storage rooms, garages, and spots with extra moisture.

You might not see the signs right away, but pests do not need much space to slip inside. Even a tiny crack can let them in. When they find shelter, they settle in and begin searching for food or water. If this continues unnoticed, the issue can grow over time.

This guide explains what pests are most common in Clark County and how to stop them in winter, so you can prevent problems before they spread.

Common Winter Pests in Clark County and How You Can Keep Them Out

1 Cockroaches

You may notice cockroaches more often during winter because they move toward warmth and moisture. They hide around drains, under appliances, or in small cracks you rarely check. Kitchens and bathrooms are easy targets because they offer water, crumbs, and shelter. A small leak near a sink is enough to draw them in.

To limit roach activity, you can seal gaps around plumbing, clean food areas often, and repair any leaks. Cockroaches spread fast if you ignore them, so catching the problem early makes a big difference.

2 Bees and Wasps

Winter slows bees and wasps down, but it does not stop them from settling into sheltered spots. You may find them in wall gaps, eaves, attics, or garages. Even if they seem inactive, disturbing them can still lead to stings.

If you notice buzzing inside a wall or see signs of nesting, avoid touching the area. A safe method is always better. For more help, here is a guide on how to get rid of bees without putting yourself at risk:

3 Rodents

Mice and rats look for warm places as soon as temperatures drop. You might hear scratching sounds in the walls, attic, or garage when they first move in. They can squeeze through openings as small as a dime, which makes winter the perfect time for them to slip indoors without being noticed.

Rodents chew wires, insulation, and even your stored items. You can help prevent this by sealing holes, storing food in tight containers, and checking dark corners where they hide—keeping your outdoor areas clean helps, too, because clutter attracts them before they enter the house.

4 Spiders

Winter pushes spiders indoors because they prefer quiet and steady temperatures. You may see them in corners, behind boxes, or near windows. Many spiders hide during the day and come out at night. Keeping your home free of clutter helps reduce the spots they use for shelter.

Vacuuming webs and sealing minor entry points can help prevent them from settling in. Spiders may not cause direct harm in most cases, but their presence can make you uncomfortable.

5 Ants

Ants slow down outdoors in winter, but they come inside when they find water or crumbs. You might notice trails near sinks or behind appliances. They do not need much food, and even a small spill can attract them.

You can prevent ant activity by cleaning surfaces often, sealing cracks around entry points, and storing food in sealed containers. Taking out the trash regularly also helps.

6 Silverfish

Silverfish become more noticeable in winter because warm indoor air feels perfect to them. They stay in damp areas such as bathrooms, laundry rooms, closets, and basements. They feed on paper, cardboard, clothing, and sometimes even old books.

You can reduce silverfish by lowering indoor moisture, fixing ventilation issues, and keeping storage areas organized. If you store items in cardboard boxes, switching to plastic bins helps a lot.

If you want deeper guidance, you can explore how to handle a silverfish infestation.

7 Crickets

Crickets often sneak in when temperatures fall, mainly if your garage or porch light attracts them. They hide under appliances, in corners, or near baseboards. Their chirping can become a nightly distraction.

To keep crickets out, check door sweeps, remove clutter, and clear warm, dark spaces where they gather. Regular sweeping and vacuuming help break their hiding habits.

Bottom Line

Winter pests in Clark County can enter your home quietly and settle in before you notice them. You can prevent most issues by sealing cracks, reducing moisture, cleaning food areas, and staying aware of early signs. Steve was very friendly from the beginning. I had a good feeling about his services, even when we first talked over the phone. I’m very specific about the areas outside my home that are sprayed. I have kids who are always playing outside and have VERY sensitive skin. I told Steve the specific areas I wanted treated. He was understanding and followed my instructions carefully. Also, I didn’t notice any bugs in my garage after Steve treated the area. I can tell he cares about his customer’s being satisfied with his work. I highly recommend him.

Steve and team gave a good price explained what type of service they provide and we are happy with our first application, having the option to call them if we see resurgence between applications is a definitely a peace of mind. We have two kids and a toddler who runs around bare feet even in the backyard so, having EnviroGuard treat our surroundings is well worth it, both environmental impact, limited footprint and safety for our kids.

We hired Enviroguard because we wanted to address pest issues without dangerous chemicals. I like that their products are eco-friendly and safe for the family. Their prices are affordable and they are reliable. Certain times of the year, like in the spring, the ants tend to show up more readily and they will always come out and do an extra treatment if necessary. We have had no major issues with bugs since we hired this company. I would highly recommend them.
