Las Vegas Pest Season: Your Guide to a Pest-Free Home

pest inspection

You can go for weeks without seeing a pest in your home. Then suddenly you may notice ants walking across the kitchen or a spider sitting in the garage. You may even find a scorpion near the patio door. It can be surprising when this happens but pests usually have a reason for showing up.

Pests respond to changes in weather, temperature, water, and food. As the seasons change in Las Vegas, you may notice different pests inspection becoming more active around your home. Knowing what to expect can help you notice a problem early. It can also make it easier to take the right steps before the problem gets worse.

Why Does Las Vegas Have Pest Problems?

Las Vegas has a hot and dry climate, so you may wonder why pests are so common here. The answer is simple. When the weather gets too hot or dry, pests look for places where they can find water, food, and shelter. Your home can provide all three.

Even small sources of water around your property can attract pests. Sprinklers, pools, leaking pipes, and pet bowls can give them the moisture they need. Gardens, shaded areas, and small gaps around your home can also provide places to hide.

So, while the desert weather plays a role in pest activity, the conditions around your home can make it easier for pests to find their way in and stay.

A Season-by-Season Look at Pest Activity in Las Vegas

Pests can be found in Las Vegas during any season. However, their activity can change throughout the year. Some pests become easier to notice during certain months. This is what people often mean when they talk about pest season.

1 Spring: Activity Picks Up

As the weather starts getting warmer, insects become more active. Ants, spiders, crickets, and other pests may begin appearing around your property. Scorpions can also become easier to notice after the cooler months.

Spring is a good time to walk around your home and check for possible pest problems. Look around the garage, yard, windows, doors, and outside walls. Check for cracks, webs, nests, and insect trails. These signs may point to a problem that needs attention.

Finding signs early is usually easier than waiting until the problem spreads. A quick check around your home can help you stay ahead of pest activity.

2 Summer: Heat Drives Pests Around

Las Vegas summers can be extremely hot. Pests feel this heat too. They may move toward shaded areas when temperatures rise. They may also look for water around homes.

Scorpions are often seen at night. Ants and cockroaches may be attracted to food and moisture around the property. Mosquitoes can also become a concern when water collects in containers, yards, or other outdoor areas.

The Southern Nevada Health District recommends removing standing water around the home. This can help reduce places where mosquitoes may breed.

This is when Las Vegas pest season can feel especially noticeable for homeowners.

3 Fall: Pests Start Looking for Shelter

Cooler weather brings another change in pest activity. Some pests begin looking for protected places where they can stay away from changing temperatures.

You may still see spiders, ants, and cockroaches around your property. Before the cooler months arrive, it is a good idea to check possible entry points around your home.

Look around doors, windows, vents, and the garage. Check for small openings that could give pests a way inside. A small gap may be all a pest needs to enter your home.

4 Winter: Don’t Forget About Pests

Winter can bring lower pest activity, but it does not mean pests disappear. Some pests may remain active outside. Others may move indoors where they can find food, water, and shelter.

Because of this, it is still important to follow basic pest prevention steps. Keep your home clean and check for possible entry points. Fix leaks and remove things that may attract pests.

Even when you see fewer pests, it is better not to ignore basic prevention.

Common Pests Control

Common Pests to Watch Around Your Home

1 Scorpions

Scorpions are common in the Las Vegas area and are often more active at night. During the day, they can hide in cracks, landscaping, piles of debris, and other quiet areas. Keep your outdoor spaces clean and check for gaps around doors, windows, and walls where they may get inside.

2 Ants

Ants are usually looking for food and water. A small line of ants in your kitchen may seem harmless, but it can mean they have found an easy source of food or water. During ant season, homeowners may notice more ants around kitchens, patios, yards, and areas near sprinklers or irrigation.

3 Cockroaches

Cockroaches are attracted to food, moisture, and clutter. They can enter through small gaps and are often found in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and areas near pipes. Keeping these spaces clean and dry can help make your home less attractive to them.

4 Spiders

Spiders often appear where other insects are available as food. Webs around exterior lights, windows, garages, patios, and corners of the home can be a sign of activity. Reducing other insect activity can also help make your property less attractive to spiders.

What Attracts Pests to Your Home?

Pests usually do not appear without a reason. Something around your home may be giving them what they need, such as food, water, or a place to hide. It could be water collecting in the yard, food left on the counter, or a small gap that gives them a way inside.

Some common things that can attract pests include:

  • Standing water
  • Leaking faucets or pipes
  • Overwatered plants and lawns
  • Pet food left outside
  • Open trash cans
  • Food crumbs and spills
  • Clutter around the home
  • Wood or other items kept against outside walls
  • Plants growing too close to the house
  • Cracks and gaps around doors and windows

Keeping your home and yard clean, dry, and well-maintained can help make your property less inviting to unwanted pests.

Simple Ways to Prevent Pests

You do not need to make major changes to start preventing pests. A few simple checks around your home can make a difference. The key is to make these checks part of your normal home care.

  • Seal Gaps: Look around doors, windows, vents, pipes, and the garage. Check for small openings where pests could enter. Close these gaps when possible and repair damaged screens.
  • Control Water: Fix leaking taps and pipes as soon as possible. Empty anything that collects water from rain or sprinklers. If possible, avoid leaving pet bowls outside for long periods. Water can attract several types of pests. Keeping moisture under control can therefore help reduce pest activity around your property.
  • Store Food Properly: Keep food in closed containers. Clean crumbs and spills when you notice them. Pet food should also be stored in a sealed place. Small food sources can be enough to attract pests. Keeping food areas clean can help reduce this problem.
  • Clear Outdoor Clutter: Move boxes, old pots, wood, and other stored items away from outside walls. Trim bushes and plants so they do not touch your home. Outdoor clutter can give pests places to hide. Keeping these areas clear makes it easier to spot signs of activity.
  • Keep the Garage Tidy: A crowded garage gives pests many places to disappear. Keep stored items organised and remove things you no longer need. Check corners and darker areas from time to time. This can help you notice web trails or other signs of pests.

These simple steps are an important part of preventing pests in your home. They work best when you make them part of your regular home care routine.

What to Do When You Spot a Pest

Don’t panic if you see one pest. First, note what it looks like and where you found it. Check nearby areas for more signs, clean up food or water sources, and look for possible entry points. If you continue seeing pests, call a pest control professional. They can find where the pests are coming from, check what may be attracting them, and treat the problem.

The goal is not just to remove the pests you can see. It is also to deal with the cause of the problem so they are less likely to come back.

Steve was very friendly from the beginning. I had a good feeling about his services, even when we first talked over the phone. I’m very specific about the areas outside my home that are sprayed. I have kids who are always playing outside and have VERY sensitive skin. I told Steve the specific areas I wanted treated. He was understanding and followed my instructions carefully. Also, I didn’t notice any bugs in my garage after Steve treated the area. I can tell he cares about his customer’s being satisfied with his work. I highly recommend him.

Steve and team gave a good price explained what type of service they provide and we are happy with our first application, having the option to call them if we see resurgence between applications is a definitely a peace of mind. We have two kids and a toddler who runs around bare feet even in the backyard so, having EnviroGuard treat our surroundings is well worth it, both environmental impact, limited footprint and safety for our kids.

We hired Enviroguard because we wanted to address pest issues without dangerous chemicals. I like that their products are eco-friendly and safe for the family. Their prices are affordable and they are reliable. Certain times of the year, like in the spring, the ants tend to show up more readily and they will always come out and do an extra treatment if necessary. We have had no major issues with bugs since we hired this company. I would highly recommend them.
